XLPE Insulation Power Cable 3 Core Copper Conductor SWA Armoured For Construction Compliant

This 0.6/1kV XLPE insulated power cable incorporates galvanised steel wire armour (SWA) over PVC bedding, providing robust mechanical protection for demanding construction environments. The cable uses stranded copper conductors (Class 2) and an outer PVC sheath. Designed for fixed installations where physical damage is a risk, it delivers three‑phase power in mains distribution, submains, and industrial circuits.

SWA armouring allows the cable to be buried directly, installed in cable ducts, used outdoors exposed, or routed in areas where mechanical stress, rodent attack, or impact damage may occur.

Installation checklist for SWA cables

  1. Earthing: The steel wire armour MUST be earthed at the supply end. Use proprietary SWA cable glands (Brass, Nickel‑plated, or Stainless Steel depending on environment).

  2. Bending radius: Do not exceed 8×OD for fixed installation. Add 50% extra for pulling.

  3. Pulling tension: Keep within 50 N/mm² of copper cross‑section. Use a cable sock (pulling grip) attached to the armour and conductors – never pull by the sheath alone.

  4. Conduit fill: Not applicable for direct burial. When installed in duct, ensure bend radius of duct matches cable requirements.

  5. Separate from data cables: Keep at least 150 mm apart. The steel armour provides some magnetic shielding but does not eliminate all interference.3 Core XLPE Insulation Armoured Cable Copper Conductor SWA For Construction Compliant

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Does the SWA armour need to be earthed?
Yes. Earth the armour at the supply end using a proper SWA cable gland. The armour acts as a protective earth path.

Q2: Can this cable be buried directly without conduit?
Yes. SWA armoured cables are rated for direct burial. Dig trench depth 450–600mm, add sand bedding, lay cable, cover with sand + warning tape.

Q3: What is the minimum bending radius?
Fixed installation: 8 × cable diameter. During pulling: 12 × cable diameter.

Q4: Is the outer sheath UV resistant?
Yes. The black PVC sheath (type ST2) is carbon‑black loaded for UV stabilisation – suitable for long‑term outdoor exposure.

Q5: Can I join two SWA cables in the field?
Yes, but use a resin‑filled straight joint kit or a junction box with SWA glands. Armour continuity must be maintained.

Q6: What is the difference between 0.6/1kV and 600/1000V?
Same rating. 0.6/1kV is IEC expression; 600/1000V is common in North America. Both refer to phase‑earth / phase‑phase voltage.
